Have you heard about the changes to the Aboriginal Procurement Policy which was announced by the Minister for Finance on 1 July 2021? This Policy includes mandatory targets for Government contracting with Aboriginal businesses and will create new opportunities for the Aboriginal business sector.
Additionally, there have been changes to the State Supply Commission’s Open and Effective Competition policy. In simple terms, these changes make it easier for government agencies to buy goods and services from Aboriginal businesses directly. This “procurement flexibility” enables Local and State Government procurement officers the ability to request a quote or tender response from an Aboriginal business without going out to a competitive tender process. However, an Aboriginal business must be registered on the Aboriginal Business Directory WA to be eligible to participate.
