This program gave pre-service teachers in Broome the chance to participate in cultural awareness training with Yawuru Elder Aunty Di, receive insights from the Kimberley Education Regional Office, and engage in practical on-Country learning with Professor Juli Coffin and the team at Yawardani Jan-ga as well as Stepping Stones Therapy Services.
Participants left with a genuine understanding of what it takes to teach and live in the Kimberley.
Congratulations to the team at Pilbara Kimberley University Centres for giving our future teachers the chance to understand the unique context of education in Broome, including place-based and culturally secure supports and services.
This is what meaningful regional teacher education looks like, and we’re glad our grant writing support helped get it off the ground.
